Gaochun Ceramics was founded in 1958, originally a small, handcrafted pottery workshop in a mountainous area producing daily-use coarse pottery. In the 1980s, it vigorously developed the export of stoneware tableware, becoming a major foreign exchange earner and profit generator in Jiangsu's ceramics industry. Since the 1990s, it has stood out in the industry, ranking among the top in China's ceramics industry in terms of comprehensive economic benefits for over a decade. In January 2003, the company's stock was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, becoming the first ceramics company in China under the approval system to issue and list its stock. Gaochun Ceramics' headquarters are located in the Gaochun Economic Development Zone in Nanjing, situated in China's economically developed Yangtze River Delta region, in the south of Nanjing, the ancient capital of six dynasties. It is less than 100 kilometers from Nanjing Port, China's largest inland river port, and 50 kilometers from Nanjing Lukou International Airport. The Ninggao Expressway, connecting the Shanghai-Nanjing and Nanjing-Hangzhou expressways, runs along the north side of the factory area, making transportation very convenient. It enjoys a distinct locational advantage among China's ceramics enterprises.
